Why Sprout Got a New Look in Update 70

Updated: June 29, 2026

Sprout looks a little different starting Update 70, and this is one of the rare visual changes that has nothing to do with game balance.

What actually changed

Sprout's base model picked up a new detail: a seed-carrying backpack that wasn't there before. His portrait was updated to match, and three of his existing skins — Corrupted, True Gold, and True Silver Sprout — were quietly refreshed to carry the same design change. Sprout's Pins are expected to get a matching update in a follow-up patch.

If you didn't notice at first glance, that's by design — the changes are subtle enough that Sprout still reads as Sprout, just with an extra piece of gear.

Why it happened

This wasn't a creative decision made in a vacuum. According to community reporting around the update, Supercell faced a trademark dispute with a French air-purifier manufacturer, who argued Sprout's original design too closely resembled one of its products. Rather than fight it out, Supercell opted to redesign the character enough to put the issue to rest.

It's an unusual reason for a mid-season visual update, but not unheard of — character designs occasionally run into real-world trademark issues, and a quiet redesign is often the simplest resolution.

Does this affect gameplay?

No. This is a pure cosmetic change — Sprout's kit, stats, and any balance adjustments from Update 70 are unrelated to the redesign. Check the full patch breakdown in our Update 70 patch notes for what actually changed on the gameplay side.
