FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Sandy is currently S-tier in Gem Grab with a score of 90/100. As a Controller, Sandy denies zones and controls objective access with area abilities, making it a reliable pick when the meta favors Gem Grab.
Run Rude Sands as the default Star Power for Sandy — it works in most situations. Switch to Healing Winds on maps that punish your main weakness. For Gadgets, Sleep Stimulator is the standard active pick; Sweet Dreams is situationally better on specific map types. Speed and Shield Gears are the standard choice.
Sandy struggles against Brock and Piper, who can out-trade Sandy at the ranges or map types where Sandy is most exposed. On the flip side, Sandy consistently beats Tara and Poco.
Sandy performs best in Gem Grab (S-tier, 90/100). The Controller kit — denies zones and controls objective access with area abilities — is directly rewarded in Gem Grab, which is why Sandy climbs higher here than in other modes. See the mode ratings section for a full breakdown.
Sandy pairs best with Melodie and Charlie. Since Sandy denies zones and controls objective access with area abilities, teammates that cover the opposite role — whether that is frontline presence, healing, or ranged poke — create the most complete comp.
To play Sandy well, focus on Gem Grab where the mode rating is highest, and lean into being a Controller that denies zones and controls objective access with area abilities. Run Rude Sands as the core build, track Brock and Piper on the enemy team, and pair with Melodie and Charlie when possible.

HOW TO PLAY SANDY

Sandy provides powerful area concealment by using his Super to create a persistent sandstorm that makes all allies inside it invisible to enemies and slows opponents who enter. His sleep-dart attack progressively slows a target to a crawl, making isolated enemies easy to run down. He is a premier controller in Gem Grab and Hot Zone where the sandstorm covers the objective and enables the gem carrier to safely pick up gems.

Place Sandy's sandstorm Super on the objective rather than where your team currently is, then move your team into the storm to contest from invisibility. His slow darts stack on a single target, so focus all attack on one priority enemy to fully immobilize them before switching to the next.

PRO TIPS

Controller Game Plan
Build your Super from safe positions and deploy it on the objective approach route, not reactively. Take Rude Sands in most situations, switching to Healing Winds on maps where enemies can close distance. A Super that wins map control is worth more than one used defensively.
PRIORITY
Draft Around Counters
Watch for Brock or Piper. Both Sleep Stimulator and Sweet Dreams are in your kit — learn which one punishes your counters versus which gives you an escape window. Use your Gadget early rather than saving it for a desperate moment.
MATCHUP
Best Team Shape
Pair Sandy with Melodie or Charlie when possible. Build toward Swift Winds in safe positions — it swings fights instantly, so activate it when your team has the edge, not when you are already behind.
