FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Gale is currently A-tier in Gem Grab with a score of 82/100. As a Controller, Gale denies zones and controls objective access with area abilities, making it a reliable pick when the meta favors Gem Grab.
Run Blustery Blow as the default Star Power for Gale — it works in most situations. Switch to Freezing Snow on maps that punish your main weakness. For Gadgets, Spring Ejector is the standard active pick; Twister is situationally better on specific map types. Speed and Shield Gears are the standard choice.
Gale struggles against Brock and Piper, who can out-trade Gale at the ranges or map types where Gale is most exposed. On the flip side, Gale consistently beats Bull and Rosa.
Gale performs best in Gem Grab (A-tier, 82/100). The Controller kit — denies zones and controls objective access with area abilities — is directly rewarded in Gem Grab, which is why Gale climbs higher here than in other modes. See the mode ratings section for a full breakdown.
Gale pairs best with Charlie and Emz. Since Gale denies zones and controls objective access with area abilities, teammates that cover the opposite role — whether that is frontline presence, healing, or ranged poke — create the most complete comp.
To play Gale well, focus on Gem Grab where the mode rating is highest, and lean into being a Controller that denies zones and controls objective access with area abilities. Run Blustery Blow as the core build, track Brock and Piper on the enemy team, and pair with Charlie and Emz when possible.

HOW TO PLAY GALE

Gale fires a wide burst of snowflakes that push back enemies who are hit, making him exceptional at creating and maintaining distance between his team and aggressive melee threats. His Super creates a wall of snow that physically blocks movement and pushes brawlers away, acting as a relocatable barrier that can cut off escape routes or protect objectives. He is a versatile pick whose push mechanic is valuable in nearly every mode.

Use Gale's push attack reactively against diving assassins rather than proactively, as the pushback is most impactful when it interrupts an enemy Super or prevents a melee brawler from connecting their attacks. His wall Super is most powerful when placed perpendicular to an enemy team's advance, forcing them to go around while your team maintains positional advantage.

PRO TIPS

Controller Game Plan
Build your Super from safe positions and deploy it on the objective approach route, not reactively. Take Blustery Blow in most situations, switching to Freezing Snow on maps where enemies can close distance. A Super that wins map control is worth more than one used defensively.
PRIORITY
Draft Around Counters
Watch for Brock or Piper. Both Spring Ejector and Twister are in your kit — learn which one punishes your counters versus which gives you an escape window. Use your Gadget early rather than saving it for a desperate moment.
MATCHUP
Best Team Shape
Pair Gale with Charlie or Emz when possible. Build toward Blizzard in safe positions — it swings fights instantly, so activate it when your team has the edge, not when you are already behind.
