FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Darryl is currently S-tier in Brawl Ball with a score of 86/100. As a Tank, Darryl absorbs frontline damage and creates space for teammates to push, making it a reliable pick when the meta favors Brawl Ball.
Run Steel Hoops as the default Star Power for Darryl — it works in most situations. Switch to Rolling Reload on maps that punish your main weakness. For Gadgets, Recoiling Rotator is the standard active pick; Tar Barrel is situationally better on specific map types. Speed and Shield Gears are the standard choice.
Darryl struggles against Emz and Charlie, who can out-trade Darryl at the ranges or map types where Darryl is most exposed. On the flip side, Darryl consistently beats Piper and Nani.
Darryl performs best in Brawl Ball (S-tier, 86/100). The Tank kit — absorbs frontline damage and creates space for teammates to push — is directly rewarded in Brawl Ball, which is why Darryl climbs higher here than in other modes. See the mode ratings section for a full breakdown.
Darryl pairs best with Poco and Gene. Since Darryl absorbs frontline damage and creates space for teammates to push, teammates that cover the opposite role — whether that is frontline presence, healing, or ranged poke — create the most complete comp.
To play Darryl well, focus on Brawl Ball where the mode rating is highest, and lean into being a Tank that absorbs frontline damage and creates space for teammates to push. Run Steel Hoops as the core build, track Emz and Charlie on the enemy team, and pair with Poco and Gene when possible.

HOW TO PLAY DARRYL

Darryl is a pirate robot tank who uses his rolling barrel Super to rapidly cross the map at full speed, dealing contact damage and arriving with enough momentum to immediately follow up with his double-barreled shotgun. His unique passive reload-while-rolling mechanic means he arrives at the target with ammo ready to fire. He is particularly strong in Brawl Ball where his rolling Super can carry the ball significant distances toward the goal.

Darryl's Super charges from damage dealt, not from hits landed, so denser brawlers with high HP fill his bar more efficiently. Always arrive at the enemy with both ammo stacks ready by waiting for both barrels to reload before activating the Super.

PRO TIPS

Tank Game Plan
Position between enemies and your team. Your value comes from soaking damage, not dealing it. Choose Steel Hoops in most situations, switching to Rolling Reload on maps where enemies can close distance. Charge your Super passively by staying in fights and engage with it to set up teammates, not to escape.
PRIORITY
Draft Around Counters
Watch for Emz or Charlie. Both Recoiling Rotator and Tar Barrel are in your kit — learn which one punishes your counters versus which gives you an escape window. Use your Gadget early rather than saving it for a desperate moment.
MATCHUP
Best Team Shape
Pair Darryl with Poco or Gene when possible. Build toward Barrel O' Bullets in safe positions — it swings fights instantly, so activate it when your team has the edge, not when you are already behind.
