FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Tick is currently A-tier in Gem Grab with a score of 82/100. As a Thrower, Tick deals damage over walls and denies zones without needing line of sight, making it a reliable pick when the meta favors Gem Grab.
Run Well Oiled as the default Star Power for Tick — it works in most situations. Switch to Automa-Tick Reload on maps that punish your main weakness. For Gadgets, Mine Mania is the standard active pick; Last Hurrah is situationally better on specific map types. Speed and Shield Gears are the standard choice.
Tick struggles against Edgar and Mortis, who can out-trade Tick at the ranges or map types where Tick is most exposed. On the flip side, Tick consistently beats Bull and El Primo.
Tick performs best in Gem Grab (A-tier, 82/100). The Thrower kit — deals damage over walls and denies zones without needing line of sight — is directly rewarded in Gem Grab, which is why Tick climbs higher here than in other modes. See the mode ratings section for a full breakdown.
Tick pairs best with Emz and Gale. Since Tick deals damage over walls and denies zones without needing line of sight, teammates that cover the opposite role — whether that is frontline presence, healing, or ranged poke — create the most complete comp.
To play Tick well, focus on Gem Grab where the mode rating is highest, and lean into being a Thrower that deals damage over walls and denies zones without needing line of sight. Run Well Oiled as the core build, track Edgar and Mortis on the enemy team, and pair with Emz and Gale when possible.

HOW TO PLAY TICK

Tick lobs his head across the map in a slow arc, and it lands and detonates after a short delay, covering objectives and chokepoints with persistent area danger. His small mine-scattering attack also covers wide ground, making it hard for melee brawlers to safely approach him. He is one of the best objective protectors in Gem Grab and Hot Zone, as his head can reliably explode on the gem carrier or zone holder.

Tick's head detonates on a fixed timer, so learn its landing pattern and lead enemies into the blast zone rather than throwing it directly at a moving target. His Super charges rapidly from the combination of mine hits and head detonations, enabling frequent follow-up rotations.

PRO TIPS

Thrower Game Plan
Find a wall that puts you behind cover while arcing into the enemy's path. Do not leave that cover unless your target is out of reach. Take Well Oiled in most situations, switching to Automa-Tick Reload on maps where enemies can close distance. Your damage is free if enemies cannot reach you.
PRIORITY
Draft Around Counters
Watch for Edgar or Mortis. Both Mine Mania and Last Hurrah are in your kit — learn which one punishes your counters versus which gives you an escape window. Use your Gadget early rather than saving it for a desperate moment.
MATCHUP
Best Team Shape
Pair Tick with Emz or Gale when possible. Build toward Headstrong in safe positions — it swings fights instantly, so activate it when your team has the edge, not when you are already behind.
